Created by Franco-Belgian Jacques Ardies, the gallery has been dedicated, since 1979, to promoting Brazilian popular art. Ardies, who chose Brazil as his home country, has a 45-year history in the cultural scene, leading directly with the artists he represents. Over the decades, Galeria Jacques Ardies has established itself as an important space for popular art, holding exhibitions in renowned institutions both in Brazil and abroad. Since its opening, the gallery has organized exhibitions at MAC/Campinas, MAM/Goiânia, Espace Art. 4 (Paris), IMF Cultural Space (Washington DC, USA), Galeria Jacqueline Bricard (France), “Brasil Naïf, Memorial da América Latina (São Paulo), Galeria Pro Arte Kasper (Switzerland), Musée d´art Naif Anatole Jakovsky in Nice (France), Gina Gallery (Tel-Aviv, Israel) and recently an exhibition at the Museé de Lodève, France entitled “Brésil Identités”. In 1998, Jacques Ardies launched the book "Arte Naif no Brasil", and since then, he has continued to publish and promote popular art through various projects and exhibitions.
