Galeria Mario Cohen
São Paulo, Brazil
Opened by Mario Cohen in Rio de Janeiro in 2002, the gallery established itself as the first Fine Art Photography Gallery in Latin America, recognizing the importance of a space for the documentation and appreciation of photography, especially Brazilian photography, to reveal new talents, and to serve as a channel to bridge the gap between the artist and the market.
In August 2015, it relocated to São Paulo. Mario Cohen, responsible for the exhibitions and its collection, was part of the creation and development of the Pirelli / Masp photography collection for 19 years, which is now one of the most respected collections in the country. During this long period, he had the opportunity to recognize the richness and importance of Brazilian photography.
In his professional life, he successfully dedicated himself to the promotion of major brands through art and culture, being responsible – among other projects – for the creation of the Museum of the Portuguese Language, the first museum in the world dedicated to celebrating a language, and the Ibirapuera Auditorium with its music school that serves 150 students, which has been identified in numerous surveys as the favorite venue for Paulistas to listen to music.
In addition to exhibitions throughout the year, it boasts important collections, such as those of photographers Sebastião Salgado, Pierre Verger, Otto Stupakoff, Marcel Gautherot, Norman Parkinson, Robério Braga, among other renowned names in photography.
