About

In the screen print “A coroa do velho Oxalá”, created by Pitta for Carbono Galeria, the artist depicts the orixá's power in white-on-white, exploring his connection with fabric, a central material in his four-decade-long career. Inheriting the richelieu embroidery tradition from his mother, Pitta incorporates influences from Bahia's Carnival and African symbolism into his work, telling stories of candomblé and ancient signs through textiles. The cowrie shells featured in the piece connect past, present, and future, reflecting the spiritual bond fostered by the orixá.
