Cafi
Brazil, 1950
Cafi was born in Recife, Pernambuco, in 1950, and passed away in Rio de Janeiro, in 2019. He studied engraving and painting at the Escolinha de Arte do Brasil. Started in photography at the age of 20. Between the 70's and 90's, he made more than 260 record covers, among them: Clube da Esquina (1 and 2); Geraes, Minas, Milagre dos Peixes, entre outras (Milton Nascimento); Vai passar e cio da terra (Chico Buarque); Vento Bravo (Edu Lobo); Beto Guedes; Geraldo Azevedo; Nana Caymmi; Toninho Horta; Fagner; Sarah Vaughan; Francis Hime; Jards Macalé; Turibio Santos; Cristina Buarque; Lô Borges; Blitz; Alceu Valença etc.
As a photographer, he has participated in more than 30 exhibitions on Brazilian themes with architect Gisela Magalhães: Sete brasileiros (UNB), Carrancas do São Francisco (MAM, MASP), Indios Kráo (MAM, MASP), Salve Getúlio (Museum of the Republic), Macunaíma (Sesc). He participated, along with Aloísio Magalhães, in the Centro Nacional de Referência Cultural (CNRC). Accompanied by Miguel do Rio Branco, Walter Firmo and Pedro de Moraes, with text by Darcy Ribeiro, he also published the collection of postcards "Os brasileiros".
