Alex Flemming

Alex Flemming is a painter, sculptor and engraver. Lives and works in Berlin. He attended the free film course at the Armando Álvares Penteado Foundation (Faap), in São Paulo, between 1972 and 1974. He studied screen printing and metal engraving. In the 1970s, he made short films and participated in festivals. From the 1990s, he made interventions in exhibition spaces and paintings of autobiographical character. He collected furniture to use in his work, applying on them paints and letters or texts. He has lived in Germany since 1993, and continues to exhibit frequently in Brazil. In 1998, he made glass panels for the São Paulo Subway Station, with photos of ordinary people, to which he superimposes with colored letters excerpts from poems by Brazilian authors. The representation of the human body and the maps of regions in conflict are in the series "Body Builders" (2001-2002).
